Why a Family Organization?
What has been my personal motivation? For years I've had pressed upon my mind the need to learn more about my own Steiner name, our family, their stories and genealogy. I have taken a genealogy class or two, talked with some about how research is done, but it has gone in one ear and out the other. And so I have felt I should do at least what I can do. I felt I could try to gather our family as best I can, organize the talents within our family by finding those who are adept at genealogy, etc. and hope others feel the same by lending their help and support. I feel that a family organization is what we’ve needed for a long time. In talks with other Steiner descendants, they have shared similar feelings. And the stories I personally have really only start with the boys, John Ernest and Walter Herman. What about their parents, John Martin Steiner and Anna Barbara Schmied? What about their sisters Flora Clara and Hermine Ida? What is their story? Where are their descendants? How did Simon Alfred, a brother born between Walter and Flora, die when only 2½ years old? That Which Unites Us
Regardless of personal beliefs any of us enjoy, you are family if you share John Martin Steiner and Anna Barbara Schmied in your ancestry as I do! This organization is for all of us. In this preface to our family organization, I expect our many family members to use this reunion and website, and the resources that come from these, to their benefit as they see fit. The purposes will differ for each of us. Some of us will want to download a history and picture of an ancestor we may want to know more about. Some will have temple ordinances performed or provide for the work to be done. Still others will engage themselves in genealogy and family history work purely as a hobby. I encourage all of us to share what we already have, and to share what we find. Hopefully, we will link ourselves together and feel a greater connection and sense of family in a larger scope. An Opportunity to Serve

We atrophy as we continue to distance ourselves from opportunities to serve and be one. So, I encourage all of you, my family, to make yourselves available and find joy in assisting in the many purposes of the John Martin Steiner Family Organization.
